Why We Love Slow Travel — A Letter From the Road

Hi friends,

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve officially been on the road as a full-time RV family for four years now. Four years of tiny living, endless adventure, and more laughter (and laundry!) than I ever thought possible. When we first started this journey, we had no idea where it would lead. We just knew we were craving something different—something slower, more connected, and more meaningful.

Looking back now, I can say with my whole heart: this has been the most transformational experience of our lives.

The Heart Behind Slow Travel

If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about slow travel. But what does that really mean?

To us, slow travel isn’t just about taking our time—it’s about being fully present in the places we go. It’s staying an extra week because the kids made friends at the campground. It’s skipping a tourist stop because we found a hidden trail with wildflowers in bloom. It’s letting

go of the pressure to “see it all” and instead choosing to feel it all.

We’re a family of five (plus three furry sidekicks), traveling the U.S. in our Jayco North Point 377RLBH. And the slower we move, the deeper we experience each place—and each other.

Slow travel has given us:

    •    Time—real, unhurried time together

    •    Connection—with nature, with people, and with ourselves

    •    Freedom—to create a life that reflects our values, not the rush of the world around us

Some days, slow travel looks like long hikes and starry skies. Other days, it looks like working from the dinette while the kids roadschool in their PJs and the dogs snore in the slide-out. Either way, it’s ours. And that’s the beauty of it.

RV Life: The Good, the Hard, and the Real

Of course, RV life isn’t all mountain views and cozy campfires. It’s also tank dumping, rainy travel days, and trying to cook dinner in a kitchen the size of a closet while someone’s doing a cartwheel next to the fridge.

But even the chaos feels meaningful.

We’ve learned to embrace the messiness—because that’s where the growth happens. Our kids have become adaptable, creative, and curious. We’ve grown closer as a couple, as parents, and as a team. And through it all, we’ve discovered that living small can make your life feel bigger than ever.

Why We Share Our Journey

When we first started @chaoskiddosandharmony, our goal was simple: to document the adventure and maybe inspire a few others along the way. What we didn’t expect was the incredible community we’d find—people who are curious, courageous, and craving something more for their families too.

So whether you’re full-timing, weekend camping, or just dreaming from your desk, we hope our story helps you feel a little more empowered to write your own.

We share the real side of RV life—roadschooling, hiking, family chaos, and all the beautiful in-betweens. Because this life isn’t perfect, but it is possible—and so worth it.

From Our Wheels to Yours

Thanks for being here. Thanks for following along, cheering us on, and letting us share a little piece of this wild, wonderful road life with you.

If you ever have questions about RVing, slow travel, or what it’s like to raise kids in 400 square feet on wheels, I’m just a message away. We love connecting with other families and fellow dreamers.

With love & adventures,

Gwendolyn & Brittan
